PLDT Telpad - Innovation to landlines!

PLDT, the Philippines largest telco company has launched the new PLDT Telpad. It's a new touchscreen tablet bundled with landlines and dsl. It starts at 1849 pesos for a 1Mbps connection and landline.

The device comes with a handset which also serves as a charging dock for 7 inch screen tablet.

It also has the following features:

1. USB Host 2.0 (connect hard drives and USB memory sticks to this)
2. Mini USB
3. SD Card Slot
4. Front Facing 3 Mega Pixel Camera
5. 2 GB On-board RAM
6. Same graphics processor as Galaxy S Phone
7. Wifi b/g/n
8. HDMI Output yes it has this. Divx Xvid MPEG 4 and H264 support. Output up to 1080p.
9. Cradle with a serial port and charging port to connect it to the phone extension
10. Bundled Apps
11. Froyo 2.2 Android
12. LCD is standard 800 x 480 . Its not super LCD nor AMOLED. It is capacitive multi-touch.
13. If you were an existing DSL customer, they give this to you for P500 a month AND BUMP up your existing speed by HALF a MEG. So if you are 1mbps now you will be 1.5. If 2 now then 2.5 mbps. If you are a BUNDLED subscriber then your minimum speed is automatically raised to 1 MBPs. This thing is killer. The pad is good but the permanent speed bump is fantastic.

The VERY FIRST in the world I think. Well done PLDT.

Scottish MP resigns over Filipino comments

LONDON (AFP) – A Scottish MP was forced to quit his role on a parliamentary committee after being caught on microphone saying a woman in the audience was "very attractive" with "that Filipino look."

Frank McAveety, a Labour politician, stepped down as chairman of the public petitions committee Wednesday after his inappropriate comments were picked up as he convened a meeting of the body.

The former Scottish government minister also quit as sport spokesman for the Labour party in Scotland.

The 47-year-old member of the Scottish parliament's remarks were caught on microphone as witnesses changed places at the committee meeting Tuesday.

He was heard saying to a committee clerk: "There's a very attractive girl in the second row. Dark and dusky. I'll maybe have to put a wee word out for her.

"She's very attractive-looking. Nice, very nice.

"The heat's getting to me. True, true, true.

"She's got that Filipino look, you know the kind you would see in a Gauguin painting. There's a wee bit of culture."

He decided to resign after his comments appeared in media reports.

The Scottish parliament was set up in the late 1990s after Scots backed the idea of devolving powers from London in a referendum.

The pro-independence Scottish National Party, led by First Minister Alex Salmond, holds power in Scotland.
